GAME-DAY LIST FOR PARENTS
Before the game: Tell your child to have fun and try their best. Make a commitment as parents and players to honor the game in action and language. Remember that this is youth football, and we're all here to show them a great time and experience. Breakfast should be healthy and not contain milk as it causes upset stomachs. Leave with plenty of time to arrive at the time requested by the coaches.
During the game: Don’t give your child instruction, that's the coach's job. Doing so can cause confusion and misalignment for what the coaches are trying to accomplish. Acknowledge good plays by both teams. Recognize good calls by officials but refrain from commenting on bad calls. They are volunteers too, so let's remember that they can make mistakes too. Gently correct unsportsmanlike behavior of other parents or spectators. If the officials or league representatives ask you to stop something, please understand and oblige. We're a family in this together, so let's represent Spring Oaks with the upmost respect.
After the game: If you run into an official, thank them for doing a difficult job. Encourage your kid to thank the coaches for their efforts. (This is not the time for criticism.) Remember, emotions are high right after a game, so wait 24 hours for anything you need to discuss about your child's participation in the game. Thank the opponents for a good game. Congratulate your child and teammates for their efforts and displays of sportsmanship. Ask your child if he or she had fun.
